The drive towards liquefied petroleum gas (LPG)
LPG is a safe, clean-burning fuel whose environmental and cost advantages are making it increasingly popular as a vehicle fuel in the UK.
Always keen to benefit the environment and keep down our costs (and therefore our prices), LPG is inevitably on our list of priorities. We've already converted 30% of our full-time vehicles and aim for a fully converted LPG fleet by 2011.
What's so special about LPG?
LPG - usually known as Autogas in the UK - is a by-product of the oil production process. Unusually, LPG becomes liquid at normal atmospheric pressure but becomes a gas when pressure is reduced to a critical level.
LPG produces significantly lower emissions of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, oxides of nitrogen and carbon dioxide than petrol, and 90% less particulates by weight than diesel. The major emissions benefits attract far lower fuel duty in the UK so making LPG far more cost-effective.
LPG fuel tanks have also proved more resistant to impact than those in conventionally fuelled vehicles, giving added safety benefits.
We believe that the conversion of the Dynamic fleet to LPG is an important move that will improve safety, business efficiency and our environmental impact.
